The Challenge

The national office supply retailer was expanding rapidly and needed to scale last-mile delivery operations without sacrificing brand control or service quality. Fluctuations between B2B and D2C delivery volumes — accelerated by the pandemic — caused constant shifts in routing and capacity, creating instability and service gaps. Traditional courier models lacked the visibility and execution standards required to meet customer expectations. Internal resources were strained, and the company struggled to maintain oversight while balancing growth. The absence of a flexible, branded delivery solution was leading to inefficiencies, rising costs, and missed opportunities for market expansion.

Our Partnership

Capstone assessed the retailer’s challenges and determined that a scalable, hybrid last-mile solution paired with cross-docking services would deliver the flexibility and visibility needed to support growth and operational stability:

• Providing warehouse management and last mile services for
  over 10 years
• 365 daily routes and 70K parcels per day
• 11 dedicated, same-day delivery service facilities under
  Capstone management
• Manage the client’s external 3PL network at the cross-dock operations
• Five new facilities opened since 2022 to expand capabilities

Our Solution

The last-mile and cross-docking solution ensured smooth delivery operations and supported the retailer’s continued growth:

• Technology and visibility: item-level tracking from receipt to delivery, chain of custody scanning, proof of delivery, and geo-coded tracking
